Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI or MR) is one of the safest, most comfortable imaging techniques available. It combines a powerful magnet with an advanced computer system and radio waves to produce accurate, detailed pictures of organs and tissues to diagnose a variety of medical conditions.
A member of our clinic staff will contact you to schedule your appointment and/or provide special instructions for your exam if needed. Click here if you are unsure if you need to contact your insurance company prior to your exam. In most cases, doing so will speed up your registration process once you get to our center, and help minimize out-of-pocket expenses for this exam. 
General Exam Guidelines
- Arrive 15 minutes early to verify your registration information and provide further health information for your exam.
- Wear comfortable, metal-free clothing; be prepared to change into a patient gown if necessary.
- If your doctor provides a referral form, please bring it to your appointment along with any prior x-rays or scans (reports or images).
- Once you arrive at our center, a technologist will talk to you about your exam and review your medical history.
- You will be asked to leave all coins, jewelry, watches, keys, credit cards, hair pins, glasses, hearing aids, dental plates and any other metallic objects in a secure locker.
- Inform your doctor or the MRI technologist if you are pregnant, if you have ever been a metal worker, or if you have had surgery (especially brain, ear, or eye surgery).
- As part of the MRI safety check, you will be asked if you have a pacemaker, artificial heart valve, metal implants, neuro-stimulator, aneurysm clip, permanent eyeliner, implanted drug infusion device, foreign metal objects in the eye, shrapnel or bullet fragments or an intrauterine device (IUD).
